The Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) has intensified efforts to curb medical quackery by mobilising residents of Epe to safeguard healthcare standards in their communities.
Eko Hot News reports that the agency made the call during a stakeholders’ sensitisation forum held in Epe. Officials stressed that eliminating illegal and unprofessional health practices requires strong collaboration between regulators and the public.
The Permanent Secretary of HEFAMAA, Dr Abiola Idowu, represented by the Director of Monitoring and Inspection, Dr Olayinka Daniel, said the engagement forms part of strategies to take regulatory activities closer to the grassroots.

She explained that although the agency conducts routine monitoring, inspection, and accreditation of health facilities statewide, public participation is key to identifying unregistered operators and discouraging patronage of substandard centres.
According to her, medical quackery poses grave risks, often resulting in avoidable complications and loss of lives. She urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious facilities within their neighbourhoods.
To boost transparency, HEFAMAA introduced new compliance tools, including a QR code verification system and an official accreditation logo displayed by approved facilities. The QR code enables residents to confirm a facility’s registration status in real time.

Dr Idowu reiterated that only duly accredited facilities are permitted to operate in Lagos State. She warned that patronising unregistered providers exposes individuals and families to serious health dangers.
In his remarks, the Vice Chairman of Epe Local Government, Sikiru Owolomose, commended HEFAMAA for engaging directly with the community. He assured continued collaboration to strengthen awareness and monitoring efforts.
The sensitisation campaign is scheduled to extend to all local government councils across the state, reinforcing HEFAMAA’s zero-tolerance stance against medical quackery and regulatory violations.
