Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has dismissed former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent claim of a Christian genocide in Nigeria, describing it as “a lie without any evidence.”
In a statement obtained by our correspondent, Falana said Trump’s remarks, which have drawn international attention, reflect a recurring bias against African nations, particularly Nigeria and South Africa.
Speaking from a human rights standpoint, the senior advocate emphasized that no credible data, report, or international organization has ever substantiated such an allegation.
“The statement is baseless, misleading, and risks fueling international misconceptions,” Falana said. “Leaders must verify facts before making public declarations.”
He explained that Nigeria’s security challenges cut across religious and ethnic lines, affecting citizens of all faiths. According to him, politicizing or exaggerating the situation could further strain national unity and global perception.

Falana urged the international community and local stakeholders to prioritize truth, accountability, and evidence-based reporting when addressing issues of religion and human rights.
He concluded by noting that responsible communication is essential to preventing misinformation that could endanger peace and coexistence.
