The family of business leader Tony Elumelu has carried out a significant end-of-year charity outreach, donating essential food items to orphanage homes across Lagos, Edo, and Delta States.

Eko Hot News reports that the humanitarian exercise was launched in Lagos at the Hearts of Gold Children Hospice, Masha, Surulere, by Dr. Awele Elumelu, Chairperson of Avon Healthcare Limited, on December 28, 2025.

The distribution included 1,730 bags of rice and 290 bags of beans, aimed at easing the burden on caregivers and supporting vulnerable children as the new year approaches.

In Lagos, the beneficiaries included Hearts of Gold Children Hospice, Little Saints Orphanage (Surulere), SOS Children’s Village (Isolo), Living Fountain Orphanage, Adiel Children’s Home (Ilupeju), and Compassionate Orphanage (Egbeda).

Charitable support also reached communities in Delta State, including orphanage homes at the FMC School of Nursing and the NYSC orientation camp in Onicha-Uku, reinforcing the family’s commitment to vulnerable populations beyond Lagos.

Addressing attendees during the presentation, Dr. Elumelu expressed gratitude for the year and praised caregivers for their perseverance amid 2025’s economic pressures. She described the donation as the family’s modest contribution to helping orphaned and vulnerable children transition into the new year with hope.

“We thank God for this season of joy and peace,” she said, acknowledging that “things have been tough in 2025” but commending caregivers for their efforts in supporting children despite challenges.

Dr. Elumelu emphasised that the initiative was extended to Edo and Delta States because the needs of vulnerable children extend across the country, and that “the more you do, God will help you do more.”

In her remarks, Mrs. Laja Adedoyin, Founder of Hearts of Gold Children’s Hospice, thanked the Elumelu family for their continued support. She said previous assistance earlier in the year had helped the facility remain operational despite rising costs, particularly for medical and caregiving purposes.

Adedoyin clarified that the hospice functions not just as an orphanage but as a specialised medical care centre for children with complex health needs—including those with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus, and other congenital conditions—many of whom require constant medical attention.

She noted that on any given day, the hospice must provide both in-house medical care and external hospital treatment, and that regular donations significantly ease the financial strain on caregivers.

The outreach highlights the Elumelu family’s ongoing commitment to philanthropy and community support, particularly for Nigeria’s most vulnerable children, inspiring others to contribute to similar causes.
