Education District VI has organised a Capacity Building Training for Physical and Health Education Teachers aimed at improving teaching standards and promoting holistic student development across schools in the district. The programme focused on enhancing professional competence and strengthening the role of Physical and Health Education in schools.
Eko Hot News reports that the training brought together Physical and Health Education (PHE) teachers to equip them with modern teaching strategies, updated sports knowledge, and improved classroom and field practices. The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to improve education quality and student wellbeing in Lagos State.

Speaking at the event, the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary of Education District VI, Mrs. Mojisola Christiana Yusuff, commended the organisers for their foresight. She urged teachers to remain updated with international sports regulations and integrate global best practices into their teaching for national development.
Mrs. Yusuff also encouraged the organisation of inter-school and intra-school sporting activities, including indoor games. She noted that such activities support physical fitness, academic performance, vocabulary development, and critical thinking among students.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Acting Director, Co-curricular, Science and Technology, Mrs. Osiyemi F. M., stressed the importance of continuous professional development for educators. She explained that teachers play a vital role in shaping students’ health awareness, discipline, teamwork, and lifelong wellness habits.

She further noted that emerging health challenges, advancements in sports science, and evolving teaching methods require educators to continually update their knowledge and skills. According to her, modern PHE teachers must adapt to changing educational demands to remain effective.
Facilitators during the programme guided participants through key objectives of the training, including emerging trends in athletics, ethical standards, teamwork, and action planning for effective lesson delivery. Participants were encouraged to share knowledge gained with colleagues to promote institutional growth.

At the end of the training, teachers are expected to demonstrate improved understanding of PHE concepts, apply new strategies effectively, and promote continuous learning. The initiative highlights Education District VI’s commitment to strengthening teacher capacity and improving student outcomes through professional development.
