The Lagos State Government has advanced its push for digital transformation in adult learning through a comprehensive capacity-building programme organised by the Ministry of Tertiary Education’s Agency for Mass Education.

Eko Hot News reports that the training, themed Empowering Lifelong Learning: Innovative Strategies for Adult Learning Facilitation,” brought together facilitators from across Lagos to equip them with modern, tech-driven tools essential for combating illiteracy and enhancing lifelong learning.

Director of the Agency for Mass Education, Mrs Oluwakemi Kalesanwo, applauded participants and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to eradicating adult illiteracy. She emphasised that facilitators must embrace digital methods to deliver impactful, future-ready education.

Representing the Permanent Secretary of the Parastatals Monitoring Board, Dr Olugbenga Ayoola, Mrs Oparinde Adenike commended the agency’s dedication, describing the programme as a strategic move toward an enlightened Lagos.

The Library Board’s representative, Mrs Sophie Oyenike, urged facilitators to leverage state library resources to enhance teaching outcomes.

In an academic session led by Dr Luqman Hussein of the Lagos State University of Education, facilitators explored innovative, learner-centred methodologies aimed at modernising adult education. He highlighted the need for flexible, digital literacy-integrated teaching models.

Also presenting, Associate Professor Mrs Jola Okebiorun of the University of Lagos stressed understanding the motivations and experiences of adult learners to deliver effective instruction.

Addressing facilitator wellbeing, Mrs Silifat Giwa of the Lagos State Employee Wellness Centre delivered a session on mental health awareness, offering practical strategies for managing stress and maintaining emotional balance.

Closing the event, Director of Mass Literacy, Mrs Seriki Ibukunolu, praised the Ministry of Tertiary Education and partner agencies for a seamless execution. She commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering support, describing it as the driving force behind the agency’s achievements.
