Nurses in Lagos State Government hospitals have been urged to strengthen collaboration with other healthcare professionals to achieve integrated patient care.
Eko Hot News reports that the Special Adviser made the call to the Governor on Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Kemi Ogunyemi, at the Y2026 Retreat for Nurses held at The Zone along the Gbagada-Oworonshoki Expressway.
In her lecture titled “Breaking Professional Silos in Healthcare: The Nurse as a Connector,” Dr Ogunyemi encouraged nurses to see themselves as central players in the health system and to work closely with doctors and allied professionals.

She stressed that healthcare can no longer operate in silos, warning that fragmented service delivery weakens patient outcomes.
The two-day non-residential retreat attracted 100 nurses physically and 80 others virtually, cutting across all cadres within the Health Service Commission (HSC).

Permanent Secretary, HSC, Dr Cecilia Abimbola Mabogunje, charged nurses to remain vigilant and prioritise patient safety at all times.
She emphasised that modern healthcare demands collaboration, noting that nurses remain custodians of patients and are critical to improved outcomes.

Delivering a lecture on “Accountability and Shared Responsibilities in Integrated Care,” Director of Nursing Services, Nurse Adebukola Cole, described integrated care as the new frontier in Lagos health delivery.
She urged nurses to adopt the mindset, “It is our patients, not their patients,” and to remain accountable, professional, and technology-driven.

Participants also attended sessions on medical error prevention and financial planning, alongside award presentations and a retreat communiqué.
The retreat aligns with the THEMES Plus Agenda, reinforcing the government’s commitment to improved healthcare delivery in Lagos.
